Wiggles (14) is a dog who came to the 5A’s Animal Shelter (Illinois, USA) in May 2010 when she was 3 years old. Her owner left her there because of her allergies. In 2016, Wiggles developed a benign t.um.or. It doesn’t bother her anyway and hasn’t affected her when she runs or plays, although that t.um.or has grown.
A fund was raised for her to have the t.um.or removed last year but it couldn’t be done due to her age, according to the vets.
Carla, who works in the kennel at 5A’s, said: “They were afraid she was just too old to have that type of su.rger.y, she’s one of our specials, the older dogs, we spend a little more time with them. She’s a sweetheart and she’s a happy girl.”
Over the last year, the shelter made multiple posts on social networks to find her forever home, but she was ignored because of her health pr.o.blem.
Carla explained: “She was sweet, and they hated to do that, but they just couldn’t afford to give her medicine and take care of her”
“We’ve had several calls but the minute I tell him that t.um.or is the size of a cantaloupe they’re like, ‘Oh my,’” Carla added.
Thankfully, her new owners were happy to look past her he.alth i.ss.ues and appreciate the sweet, special dog who loves everybody. Wiggles is such a delight to be around, she even walks up to shelter employees for access to favorite spot to snuggle up in—the shelter employees’ laps.
One day, the 5 On Your Side shared her story. After seeing the story, Wiggles’ new owners, and many others, called the shelter to ask about adopting her. And over the weekend, she took her last trip out of the shelter.
Shelter director Rick Jun told the TV station that her new family is a great fit for Wiggles. She wasn’t able to go live in a house with the other animals or small kids.
“She just needs a family that can be there with her, not be put in a kennel or a crate,” Carla said before Wiggles was adopted. “She needs a home where somebody’s going to be there with her and spend a lot of time with her.”
Her new owners live in Lake St. Louis and the shelter’s director, Rick Jun, said they are a great fit. Wiggles went home with her new family over the weekend.
Wiggles finally found her forever home.
